King Filip on Facebook

DZIQ 990 AM– Belgium’s King Filip will soon be found on Facebook. Palace prepares to launch his own profile. He wants to share his daily activities to his subjects, as he does now on Twitter through the press service of the Palace. The launch date of the Facebook page will be announced soon. At the same time, the website Monarchie.be will also be updated.

– The White House has officially confirmed that U.S. President Barack Obama will come to Belgium on 26 March. The U.S. President is expected to be in the Hague, Netherlands on 24 March for a summit on nuclear security. Two days later, Obama drops off to Brussels, where he will meet with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission. It is the first time in his tenure that Obama will visit our kingdom and he will also visit the European institutions for the first time. To conclude his trip in Europe, Obama pulls a day later to the Vatican City to meet Pope Francis. It is the first time that President Obama & Pope Francis will meet. According to White House spokesman, President Obama wants to talk about the fight against poverty and growing inequality.

On Twitter, Belgium’s Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo expressed how very pleased he is about the confirmation of Obama’s visit. He said: “I am happy to welcome President Barack Obama to Belgium on the 26th of March!” George W. Bush was the last U.S. President who visited Brussels in 2005.

– Beginning April, new European Union arrivals to the United Kingdom will not be able to receive both unemployment and housing benefits, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith and Home Secretary Theresa May announced on Monday. The ban will not apply to UK or Irish nationals.
