Remembering the genocide in Rwanda

DZIQ 990 AMThe family of ten Belgian peacekeepers and twelve Belgian civilians who died during the genocide flew to Rwanda Sunday with a Belgian official delegation headed by Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, Minister of Development Jean-Pascal Labille to attend the ceremony commemorating the victims of the genocide, twenty years ago. They were brought to Brussels airport by Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo and expressed in behalf of the Belgian government his profound solidarity with the relatives of the victims. In his message, he told the family “You have a son, a husband, wife, sister or father lost in this tragedy. You have to learn to live without their presence but this trip to Rwanda gives you another chance to remember and honor them.”

Prime Minister Di Rupo and Minister of Defence Pieter De Crem will also attend the ceremony to commemorate the victims of the Belgian peacekeeping missions at 11 am today at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Brussels.

– Meanwhile, in the German capital Berlin, a cemetery for lesbians was inaugurated. The cemetery is a part of the Georgen cemetery in Prenzlauer Breg, near the famous Alexanderplatz. The 400 square meters can accommodate 80 coffins and urns. The project is under agreement between Sappho Foundation, an organization for lesbians and the Lutheran parish cemetery Georgen. The group may use the cemetery for 30 years on condition that they will be responsible for maintenance of the site. According to a spokeswoman for the association of the lesbian community, ‘their loved ones are special and can live on in the afterlife that way’.

– The unseen quarrel in the royal family might be in danger to get a tail. It appears that it was just Queen Paola who visited her son Prince Laurent in the hospital and King Albert did not bother to come. The prince had a serious lung problem two weeks ago that put him in a coma for a day. The royal family feud seems now complete.

See you again on Wednesday, same time, same station. Have a great week everyone!
